The logbook you never open.
Claimable Drive records your drives from your pocket, and you swipe each one business or personal. The log the CRA asks for comes out of the swipes, whether you are self-employed, an employee or incorporated.
Coming to the App Store October 26
iPhone first.
Free for thirty drives a month. Unlimited for C$9.99, or included with Claimable Pro.
What it is worth
Your driving is worth money. The logbook is the proof.
You deduct the share of what the car actually cost that was business driving: business kilometres over every kilometre.
Running costs only: fuel, insurance, repairs, licence. Capital cost allowance, lease payments and loan interest are claimed on top, each under its own CRA limit.
$3,000
a year on line 9281 of your T2125, at 50% business use.
Without a logbook, the CRA can deny it.
Tell Drive which one you are once. No T2200, or driving a company car? Drive keeps the log your employer needs. Driving between home and your regular workplace is personal either way, and Drive reads it as commuting.
How it works
What a CRA mileage log needs, recorded for you.
It records without being opened.
Turn it on once. Your phone notices it is in a vehicle and records the drive start to finish. A walk is never recorded, and a ride in someone else's vehicle is deleted from its own screen, so it never counts toward your car's year.
It works out which drives are business.
Name a place once and every trip there arrives already sorted, waiting for one swipe to confirm. Set your work hours and the rest leans the right way.
A logbook built to the CRA's list.
Date, destination, purpose and distance on every business trip, and the odometer at each end of the year: the CRA's list for a vehicle logbook.
Inside the app
Most days, this is all you see of it.
When a drive ends, the Lock Screen asks whether it was business or personal. One tap files it. A business drive to a new place opens the app to ask its purpose.

Coverage
It tells you when it stops recording.
Every tracker tells you it is on. Drive tells you when it has caught nothing for days, or lost its location permission, before a gap can quietly inflate your percent.
Missed one anyway? File it from the logbook: give the two ends and Drive measures the road between them, so the distance is never a number typed from memory.
Six days in March, the phone off in a drawer on holiday. Nine in July, when an update took location down from Always. Drive tells you as soon as it notices. Your logbook export states how many days were watched.
What it keeps
A logbook, not a location history.
Recording needs two permissions, motion and location. Notifications are asked for during setup, and the camera only when you photograph a receipt. What it keeps, and for how long, is one page.

Questions
The ones people ask before they trust it.
What happens after thirty drives in a month?
Recording pauses, and the app tells you the day it comes back. The thirty drives you have are yours in full, with their routes and their addresses, and they stay that way whether you ever pay or not. The allowance resets on the first of every month, so recording starts again by itself. A subscription starts it again now, and keeps it running.
Does it drain the battery?
GPS runs only while you drive. Between drives the app is asleep, and iOS wakes it with its own low-power signals: a move of a few hundred metres, arriving at or leaving a place, leaving where you parked. Motion then decides whether it is a drive. There is no beacon to pair.
How accurate is the distance?
The phone records the route as you drive, so the distance follows the roads you took rather than a straight line. Where the signal drops, in a tunnel or a parkade, the gap is measured along the road wherever the road makes sense, and a trip you added by hand is marked Typed.
Will the CRA accept it?
The CRA does not approve apps; it asks for records. For every business trip: the date, the destination, the purpose and the distance. For the year: the total kilometres you drove, business and personal, and the odometer reading at the start and the end. Drive records the trips itself, asks for the two odometer readings when they are due, and exports it all whenever you are asked.
Is there an Android version?
iPhone first, on October 26. Android is next. Tell us you are waiting and we will email you once, when it is out.
Do I have to use Claimable too?
No. Drive is its own app: recording, sorting, the logbook and the figure. If you also use Claimable for the rest of a Canadian return, the same account opens both, and Claimable Pro includes Drive.
